An Introduction to Canada
Canada is the second largest country in the world. It takes almost seven hours of flying time to cross the 7,000 kilometres from one side of the country to the other. Canada has many different types of geography, weather, and people. To find out more about Canada, you can visit the Canadian Tourism website, where you can find out about different locations in Canada using their map.
No matter where you go in Canada, you will experience four seasons. This includes winter! Working outdoors in construction you need to be prepared for the winter.
Canada is a large country made up of 10 provinces and three territories. It can be divided into five areas:
- The East (also called the Atlantic region) includes the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
- The Central region includes the provinces of Quebec and Ontario.
- The Prairies include Manitoba, Saskatchewan and some parts of Alberta.
- The West includes Alberta and British Columbia.
- The North is made up of the three territories of Nunavut, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories.
Each province has its own government and laws. Visit the Going to Canada site to find out more about Canada’s government and structure.
